Courtney Takes Music Conference By Surprise

On the closing night of the ROCKRGRL Music Conference in Seattle, Love seemed to appear out of thin air. Courtney dropped by the first all-girl festival of its kind in effort to lend support and distill advice to a new wave of charismatic, uprising female musicians in attendance. Her bumrush evening Q&A covered everything from frustration in the search for Hole's next bass player to why she likes the word "slut" and proved to be, according to Rolling Stone, "the hottest ticket of the symposium." Carla DeSantis, ROCKRGRL's founder, suggested Love provided the event's thesis, "You need to be in control of your career... If you're not educated, you're going to get screwed."

Love Surprises?

Those who attended WIRED Magazine's Readers Raves 2000 awards show last night were in for a surprise - Courtney Love, that is. Love took the stage in her hometown San Francisco as the unannounced presenter of the "Best Music Site" award, which was received by Napster's Shawn Fanning. During the David Spade-emceed gala, Napster picked up three more awards, Spike Jonze was named 2000's "Cultural Innovator," and Beck gave a (not-surprisingly) stellar acoustic performance.

Hole Get 'It'

In a moment of High Fidelity weakness, Rolling Stone published the "All Time Top 5 Digital Music It List," indicating artists who are "paving the way for next generation listeners." Hole appear on the list beside the likes of Public Enemy's Chuck D and the Offspring, and RS writer David Kushner notes, "Courtney Love has put almost as many MP3s on her Web site as she has songs released on official albums."

Ready-to-Wear and the Hot Dog Flavored Water

After attending their Spring 2001 show last Friday in Milan. Courtney confirmed with us that she has accepted an invitation to present the Versace collection at the 2000 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards. Other presenters include Renee Zellweger, Kate Hudson, and Salma Hayek. The ceremony is hosted by Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Gisele Bundchen and will air live October 20th on VH1. Love can also be seen with friend and rock goddess Debbie Harry this Friday on MTV's broadcast of Limp Bizkit's Playboy Bash, which was taped at the Playboy Mansion on September 28. Check your local listings for times.

UPDATE: Courtney has subsequently cancelled her appearance at the Awards.

Dress Code

Courtney Love is one of the best dressed rock stars of the year according to VH1's first annual "All Access: Best Dressed 2000." Footage and photos of Courtney's appearances over the past year are shown as experts in the fields of music, fashion, and entertainment explain why Love's innate sense of style deserves props, almost as if we needed an explanation... The fashion special reruns this week on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday. Check your local listings for times.

In other VH1-related news, Hole have been chosen by a panel of music journalists, critics, and musicians to appear on the channel's upcoming "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock." The countdown will air in one-hour segments on five consecutive nights beginning November 13th. In the meantime, make Hole the viewers' choice for "Best Hard Rock Band" by sending VH1 your ballot here.

Love of Literature

Due to the wild success of Courtney Love's essay on the music industry (which has so far recieved the most hits ever for an article published at Salon.com), she has been commissioned by a division of HarperCollins to to write a guidebook for artists that will name names and show good deals and bad deals. There are endless amounts of outrages in the music industry and Courtney is going to show struggling artists how to avoid these pitfalls and come out on top. The book will also attract those interested in a detailed and unrestricted account of the music industry, in all of its glory and shame.
